We are pleased to announce that Nathaniel Abernathy is the winner of the Katherine Jameson Piano scholarship for 2021. Nathaniel is home-schooled and has spent the past years focusing on playing the cello and improving his singing. Coming from a family of talented organists, Nathaniel is inspired to learn the piano so that he may uplift spirits as well as his family does in church services.
In his essay, Nathaniel said that learning to play the piano is a primary goal because of his grandfather who "has always stressed the importance of using our music to glorify God. We were taught that music was a gift and that it took discipline to keep our gift beautiful and in top shape so that we could always give our very best."
Nathaniel is eager to study piano because of the structure it instills in one's life and the duty he feels a calling towards. As he continues to study cello with CMSP's strings instructor Alan Saucedo, Nathaniel looks forward to studying with Szymon Czerniak, refining his knowledge of music theory, and to paving a path towards a career in music.
